Previously… Claudio Javier López (Córdoba, Argentina, 1974), better known as 'El Piojo' ('The Louse'), is a former player who began his career at Racing Club de Avellaneda in his native country and was brought to European football by Valencia CF.
His achievements… This left-footed attacker enjoyed his finest period as a footballer at Valencia, where in only four seasons he scored a total of 72 goals, 12 of which came in just 15 games against Louis Van Gaal’s FC Barcelona. During his time at the club, he won the Copa del Rey in 1999 and the Spanish Super Cup that same year.
After hanging up his boots… He retired in 2010 at Colorado Rapids in the United States. After finishing with football he turned to another of his passions: motor racing.
Did you know… López won a silver medal with Argentina at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, and was a UEFA Champions League runner-up with Valencia in 2000.
