Lucas comes back to haunt Rayo Vallecano

The Madrid club went ahead twice in a game full of chances at the Riazor, but the former Rayo player spearheaded a fightback for RC Deportivo, who could have claimed victory.

Miku the deadlock-breaker

The side from Vallecas drew first blood courtesy of a wonderful team move. Following some fine interplay, Quini drove to the byline and slid across an inch-perfect cross to Miku, who was in the right place at the right time. The Venezuelan striker beat Alejandro Arribas to the chase to notch up the opening goal, getting his name on the scoresheet for the second game on the bounce.

Lucas leads the charge as Deportivo rally

Far from letting their heads drop after going behind, RC Deportivo stuck to their task and started to dictate proceedings. They soon began to make their presence felt in the opposition half and it wasn't long before they were poking holes in the visiting defence. One such occasion saw Lucas Perez released into space in behind the Rayo backline and the forward did not falter, clipping a finish past Juan Carlos to level.

Manu Fernandez mistake

Having got back on terms, Victor Sanchez del Amo's men poured forward in search of a second goal, but instead it was Rayo who again forged ahead. Deportivo goalkeeper Manu Fernandez didn't get enough purchase on his pass out from the back and Miku stole in to capitalise, pouncing on the loose ball and laying it on a plate for Jozabed.

Fajr wonder strike

Deportivo came out after the break intent on not allowing Rayo to put the match to bed and this attitude bore fruit as they made it all square again in the very first minute of the second period. The hosts pinned their opponents back in their own half and got their reward when Faycal Fajr picked up the ball on the edge of the box and curled a beauty into the top corner of Juan Carlos's net.

Galicians get a second wind

The second equaliser galvanised the Blanquiazules, who enjoyed their best period of the game in the following quarter of an hour. They positively laid siege to the Rayo goal as the away side looked increasingly vulnerable without the ball. However, a combination of wayward finishing and fatigue took the wind out of their sails and the Madrilenians even had chances of their own to snatch a winner that ultimately eluded both teams.
