MAR 01.04.2025

Club football returned this past weekend, and there were several significant results in LALIGA EA SPORTS, including Real Betis’ victory in ELGRANDERBI. The main headlines are outlined right here.

FC Barcelona collect six points

League leaders FC Barcelona had two LALIGA EA SPORTS fixtures this past week, and they won both of them by three-goal margins as they overcame CA Osasuna 3-0 and Girona FC 4-1. Those two victories add six points to Los Azulgranas’ points tally, and they now hold a three-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid.

Real Madrid come from behind to defeat CD Leganés

It was far from easy, but Real Madrid eventually overcame CD Leganés on Saturday night, defeating their capital city neighbours 3-2. Jude Bellingham scored one and Kylian Mbappé netted the other two to earn victory for Los Blancos.

The Pichichi race heats up

It’s not just the title that FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are fighting over, as the Pichichi Award for the league’s top scorer is also up for grabs. There is a thrilling battle developing between Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappé, and they each scored two goals over the weekend to take their tallies to 25 and 22 respectively.

Real Betis finally win ELGRANDERBI again

One of the biggest fixtures of the weekend was ELGRANDERBI between Real Betis and Sevilla FC, with the home team coming out on top and taking a 2-1 victory. It’s Real Betis’ first league victory against their city rivals since 2018, and it’s the first derby win in LALIGA EA SPORTS for coach Manuel Pellegrini. It’s also Los Verdiblancos’ sixth win in a row in LALIGA EA SPORTS.

Villarreal CF hold on to fifth place

Although Real Betis have won six in a row, they are still only in sixth place. That because fifth-placed Villarreal CF earned an impressive victory of their own, a 2-1 success away at Getafe CF. As such, both Villarreal CF and Real Betis are level on 47 points, but it’s El Submarino Amarillo who hold the edge for now.

Isco is the Player of the Month for March

Real Betis playmaker Isco was able to celebrate an individual award this past week, as he was named the Player of the Month in LALIGA EA SPORTS for March. It’s the second time he has won this prize, after also earning it in April of 2024.

The other winners of the LALIGA AWARDS for March

The other March winners of the ‘LALIGA AWARDS, The Pride of our Fútbol’ have been announced too. The Best Coach prize went to Real Betis’ Manuel Pellegrini, the Best U-23 Player was Valencia CF’s Diego López, the Best Goal was scored by Valencia CF’s Umar Sadiq vs CA Osasuna and the Best Save was made by RCD Espanyol’s Joan García against Girona FC. It’s the second month in a row in which Joan García has collected the Best Save honour.

Diego López keeps up his brilliant scoring run

Diego López, who won the Best U-23 prize, netted the only goal of the game as Valencia CF defeated RCD Mallorca 1-0 on Sunday. That means he managed to score in all four of his league appearances in the month of March.

RCD Espanyol frustrate Atlético de Madrid again

After earning a 0-0 draw away at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano earlier in the season, RCD Espanyol picked up another point against Atlético de Madrid in Matchday 29 by holding Los Rojiblancos to a 1-1 draw at the RCDE Stadium.

Rayo Vallecano climb up to seventh

Goals from Pathé Ciss and Pedro Díaz, and a penalty save by Augusto Batalla, secured a 2-0 victory for Rayo Vallecano away at Deportivo Alavés, a result which moves the team from Vallecas up to seventh place. They are, therefore, very much in the running for a European berth.
