Oyarzabal and Merino win the LALIGA EA SPORTS Best Play for March

Mikel Oyarzabal and Mikel Merino have received the LALIGA EA SPORTS Best Play award for March, an accolade awarded by LALIGA in partnership with VisitSaudi.

In the 28th minute at the Reale Arena, Take Kubo picked up the ball to take a corner while the Cadiz defence were taking up their positions in the box. Before they had time to set themselves, the Japanese player spotted Mikel Oyarzabal totally unmarked at the near post, on the edge of the six-yard box. With the defenders napping, he fizzed in a low ball which Oyarzabal laid off for Mikel Merino behind him.

The midfielder made the most of his teammate’s sumptuous backheel assist to leather it first time with his right foot, catching Jeremias Ledesma stranded and scoring the first goal of the game. The Reale Arena crowd were thrilled with the impudence and the quality of the players, celebrating the opening goal and, eventually, the 2-0 victory at the final whistle as they claimed all three points.

The Real Sociedad players take home the LALIGA EA SPORTS Best Play award for March, ahead of Aleix Garcia and Savinho (Girona FC) and Gaya and Hugo Duro (Valencia CF).
