Miku, the man of the moment
Rayo Vallecano's Venezuelan striker is enjoying a purple patch and took just three minutes to pounce on a loose ball in the box to make it 1-0. Bebe was the orchestrator, marauding at full pelt down the left flank and drilling in a shot that Javi Varas was unable to hold and Pedro Bigas failed to clear, allowing Miku to stab home on the goal line.
Jozabed's stroke of genius
The Sevilla academy graduate is having a brilliant season. Not only is he his side's heartbeat in the middle of the park, but he's bagging goals to boot – eight of them in total in the Liga BBVA, making him the highest-scoring midfielder in the division. On this occasion he didn't manage to hit the back of the net, but was just a whisker away from what would have been the goal of the weekend. His lob from some distance outside the area caught Varas off guard and the UD Las Palmas keeper could only watch with relief as the ball flicked off the crossbar.
An open match
The Canary Islanders and Madrilenos are cut from the same cloth in terms of their style and there was plenty of slick passing on show at Vallecas. Any slim chances of a cagey affair were quashed early on by Miku's opening goal, after which Quique Setien's men were forced to come out in search of an equaliser, while Paco Jemez's charges set about looking to extend their advantage.
Bebe earns breathing space
Having already showcased his pace for the opener, the speed merchant capitalised on the game being stretched to cause more damage. Jozabed played the ball in to Miku, whose exquisite flick found Bebe racing into the area to caress home the second goal, allowing his team and the Vallecas crowd to breathe easier and lifting Rayo out of the drop zone.
