LALIGA EA SPORTS Matchday 32 preview

Real Madrid vs Athletic Club headlines a weekend of big games

News

SAT 19.04.2025

The 2024/25 LALIGA EA SPORTS title race has been absolutely fascinating and it looks like it’ll go down to the wire. As such, this weekend’s FC Barcelona Estadi Montilivi to finish off Matchday 32, ahead of a midweek Matchdaymust-watch events. There are several other important fixtures at all levels of the table, so it should be a fun weekend of action from start to the finish.

The start takes place at the RCDE Stadium, where RCD Espanyol and Getafe CF face off on Friday night. The Catalan side are in good form, having collected seven points from their past three matches, and they’ll hope for another victory in this game to further ease any lingering fears of relegation.

Four games are taking place on Saturday, starting with Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia CF in Spain’s capital. Rayo Vallecano enter this matchday three points ahead of their opponents, but it’s Los Che who are in better form with three victories in a row. Another Valencia CF win here would make them serious contenders for a European qualification spot.

At 16:15 CEST, attention turns to the title race as FC Barcelona welcome RC Celta to the Estadi Olímpic. When they met earlier this season, two RC Celta goals in the final few minutes made it a 2-2 draw. Hansi Flick will be determined for his team to take all three points this time, especially with Real Madrid just four points behind in the standings.

The final two games of Saturday both take place on Spain’s islands, starting with RCD Mallorca vs CD Leganés and followed by UD Las Palmas vs Atlético de Madrid. In the first of these matches, RCD Mallorca will be looking for more points as they hunt a European place while Lega want to end their run of five league games in a row without victory. Then, UD Las Palmas will hope to build on last weekend’s victory, which was their first in 2025, when they host an Atlético de Madrid side who haven’t won at the Estadio de Gran Canaria since 2017.

Bottom-placed Real Valladolid host the first of Sunday’s fixtures, taking on CA Osasuna at the Estadio José Zorrilla and seeking what would be their first goal and first victory against Los Rojillos in five meetings.

Next up is a big game in the European race, as Villarreal CF take on Real Sociedad. The home side are much better positioned to qualify for Europe next season as things stand, but La Real will travel with confidence as they remember that they won 3-0 the last time they visited the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Sevilla FC are in action next, taking on Deportivo Alavés in the Andalusian capital, and it’ll be the first match back for Joaquín Caparrós, who is taking the reigns of Los Rojiblancos once again following the dismissal of García Pimienta. Sevilla FC currently sit in 14th, and will look to finish the season strong.

The 21:00 CEST kick-off on Sunday is a huge one, with second-placed Real Madrid going head to head against fourth-placed Athletic Club. The Basques won the previous meeting between these two clubs earlier this season, a 2-1 victory in Bilbao, so Real Madrid can’t take anything for granted as they set out in search of three vital points in the title race.

The final game of the matchday, on Monday night, is an increasingly important one for Girona FC. Now just five points above the relegation zone, the team that last season qualified for the Champions League need to build up a cushion to the drop zone. That’s easier said than done, though, as they are taking on a very strong Real Betis side. It should be a thrilling game at the Estadi Montilivi to finish off Matchday 32, ahead of a midweek Matchday 33.
