What has been going on in LALIGA this past week? Here are 10 of the top stories, from Valencia CF’s coaching change to the LALIGA AWARDS winners for December.

There may not have been any LALIGA EA SPORTS fixtures in the final week of 2024, but there were still several important developments in the world of Spanish football. Here’s all you need to know. 

Valencia CF make a coaching change  

Sitting joint-bottom of the table on 12 points, Valencia CF have used the winter break to make a coaching change. The club has parted ways with Rubén Baraja, replacing him with Carlos Corberán, who has left West Bromwich Albion to take the job. His first match in charge will be at home against Real Madrid on January 3rd. 

Iago Aspas is staying at RC Celta for another year

RC Celta announced this past week that Iago Aspas is staying at the Galician club for another year. His contract was set to expire at the end of this season, but the forward has put pen to paper on a new deal, which will run until the end of the 2025/26 season. 

Jude Bellingham is the December Player of the Month

The LALIGA EA SPORTS December Player of the Month award has gone to Jude Bellingham, who had a great month in the competition by scoring four goals and providing two assists. The Englishman has won this prize for the third time, after already claiming two Player of the Month prizes during his debut LALIGA EA SPORTS season. 

Diego Simeone wins Coach of the Month

As for the LALIGA EA SPORTS December Coach of the Month prize, Diego Simeone has won this after Atlético de Madrid won all three of their league games in the month of December, going top of the table. This is the fifth time the Argentinian has picked up this honour, with only Ernesto Valverde boasting more Coach of the Month prizes to his name.

Arda Güler is the best U-23 player of December

One of the other December prizes revealed this past week was the one for the Best U-23 player, and this has gone to Real Madrid’s Turkish sensation Arda Güler. The 19-year-old featured in all five of his team’s league matches in the month of December, scoring a goal against Girona FC and providing two assists against Rayo Vallecano.

Meanwhile, the other two December winners for the ‘LALIGA AWARDS, The Pride of our Fútbol’ were announced too. The Best Goal was scored by Girona FC’s Ladislav Krejčí vs Villarreal CF, while the Best Save was made by CD Leganés’ Marko Dmitrović vs FC Barcelona. 

Jon Pacheco commits to Real Sociedad until 2030

Real Sociedad celebrated a contract renewal this past week, with 21-year-old centre-back Jon Pacheco agreeing to a long-term contract extension. The defender, who won Olympic gold with Spain last summer, has signed a new deal that’ll run until 2030.

Kike Salas renews with Sevilla FC until 2029

Another young defender who has committed to his club for the long term is Kike Salas at Sevilla FC. In the case of the 22-year-old, he has extended his deal at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán until 2029. 

Kick-off times are revealed for all the January fixtures

All of the LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA HYPERMOTION fixtures for the month of January now have the exact dates and kick-off times confirmed, and there are several fascinating games to look forward to, such as Real Oviedo vs Real Sporting on January 11th, Getafe CF vs FC Barcelona on January 18th or Atlético de Madrid vs Villarreal CF on January 25th.

Sevilla FC win the latest LALIGA FC FUTURES tournament

The LALIGA FC FUTURES Under-13s tournament is one of the most prestigious youth football competitions in the world and the 28th edition has been won by Sevilla FC, who defeated local rivals Real Betis in the final.
