SÁB 01.03.2025
Matchday 26 of LALIGA EA SPORTS is just around the corner, with three games in particular standing out: Real Betis vs Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid vs Athletic Club and FC Barcelona vs Real Sociedad. All three of these fixtures pit really good teams against each other, and the results of Matchdayesenting Spain in European competitions. Plus, every one of these six teams emerged victorious from Matchday 25. It’ll be thrilling to watch these three battles, which are vitally important for the title race and European qualification.
Real Betis vs Real Madrid: Ceballos and Isco take on their former clubs
A hard-fought 2-1 victory away at Getafe CF on Sunday saw Real Betis record their second consecutive win in the league. The man who netted both goals was former Real Madrid midfielder Isco, who is in good form and who is preparing to face his former club this Saturday, in a 18:30 CET kick-off. Sitting seventh in the standings, the Andalusian midfielder and his teammates will be aware that beating the defending champions is anything but an easy task. Real Betis have won just one of their last 10 games against Real Madrid on home soil, but Isco and co. are in good form.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid returned to winning ways last weekend, with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Girona FC on Sunday. With it, Carlo Ancelotti’s side celebrated their first league win since beating Real Valladolid 3-0 on the road back on January 25th. Luka Modrić opened the scoring just before the break and Vinícius finished the Catalan side off in the closing stages after being set up by an in-form Kylian Mbappé, who has netted 14 goals in the last 12 games across all competitions. Also in form is Dani Ceballos, another player who’ll be taking on his former club in this crucial game at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.
Atlético de Madrid vs Athletic Club: Two teams enjoying excellent seasons
The upcoming “super matchday” also features a highly-anticipated duel between Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club, which takes place at 21:00 CET on Saturday night. Sitting just one point below FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, Los Colchoneros are having a great season and are patiently awaiting a potential slip-up by either or both of the league leaders. Their goal is to stay within touching distance and then pounce in what has been one of the most entertaining title races over last years.
Atleti defeated Athletic Club in Bilbao earlier this season, and the team from Madrid have lost just one of their last 14 league games, however Diego Simeone knows it will not be easy against the Basques. Coming into Matchday 26 on the back of one of their finest performances this season, Los Leones are looking to join the title race too. Athletic Club just thrashed Real Valladolid 7-1 on Sunday, with six different players getting their names on the scoresheet. Having lost just two of their 12 games away from home, Ernesto Valverde’s team will look to extend their unbeaten run in the league to 17 games, with their last loss dating back to October 6th, a 2-1 defeat at Girona FC.
FC Barcelona vs Real Sociedad: A powerful attack against a stingy defence
A 2-0 victory away at UD Las Palmas on Saturday means FC Barcelona enter this matchday top of the table, although they’re level on points with fierce rivals Real Madrid. Los Blaugrana have registered five league wins in a row, keeping a clean sheet in three of those games. Meanwhile, Hansi Flick’s side boast the best attack in the competition with an average of 2.68 goals scored per game.
This Sunday afternoon, though, FC Barcelona will take on one of the stingiest defences in LALIGA EA SPORTS, in this game that kicks off at 16:15 CET. Having conceded just 23 goals in 25 matches, Real Sociedad boast the third-best back line, with goalkeeper Álex Remiro having kept the most clean sheets (12) thus far. Currently sitting just one point behind the European spots, Real Sociedad will look to build on last week’s 3-0 home victory over CD Leganés by getting something from their game at the Estadi Olímpic. However, the head-to-head is not in Real Sociedad’s favour, especially in Barcelona, where the hosts have won 28 of their last 29 games across all competitions.
All three of these fixtures pit really good teams against each other, and the results of Matchday 26 could be decisive come the end of the season.
