- Merino (22/06/1996) joined At. Osasuna's academy in the 2012-2013 season.
- Jan Urban handed him his chance in the Osasuna first team and he made his debut on 23 August 2014 against FC Barcelona B.
- His first senior goal came in a 2-1 away triumph over UD Las Palmas in December 2014, as Merino struck to complete a comeback over the league leaders.
- He is the son of Miguel Merino, who played for Osasuna during the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s.
- Merino was part of the Spain Under-19s side that lifted the European Championship in July 2015.
- Away from football, one of his biggest hobbies is basketball.
- The Pamplona-born youngster chalked up four goals during the course of the regular Liga Adelante season and he has a further three to his name so far in the #PlayOffLaLiga campaign.
- He is affectionately known to his teammates as 'Meri', a shortened form of his surname.
- In February 2016, he signed a five-year deal with Borussia Dortmund.
- He has an auntie and uncle who live in Germany, which, as Merino himself has acknowledged, will assist him as he adapts to life in Dortmund.
