Rayo Vallecano have announced the appointment of Ruben Baraja as manager until the end of the 2016/17 season.
Baraja, best known for his time at Valencia, replaces former coach Jose Ramon Sandoval and is charged with returning the club to LaLiga Santander following relegation last year. The former midfielder is no stranger to LaLiga 1l2l3 having managed Elche in the second tier last season.
The 41 year-old began his coaching career as an assistant to Gregorio Manzano at Atletico Madrid in 2011. Between 2013 and 2015 he coached in the youth team setup at his former side Valencia before taking over at Elche for the 2015/16 season. As a player he turned out for his hometown club R. Valladolid, Atletico Madrid and Valencia, winning the LaLiga title on two occasions (2002, 2004).
