Many sides battle it out for a coveted Liga BBVA berth every season, but there are only three spots available for the 22 Liga Adelante clubs to fight over. The final one to be confirmed this time around belongs to At. Osasuna, who will join D. Alaves and CD Leganes in the top flight next season, after dispatching of Gimnastic and Girona FC in the playoffs.
The club returns to the big time thanks to their commitment to home-grown players, after two years in the second tier of Spanish football. The strategy has been driven forward from the dugout, where coach Enrique Martin has consistently stressed the importance of a core filled with players who are Osasuna through and through.
Martin, who made over 250 appearances for the club as a player, was the brains behind the successful promotion push and managed to put his wealth of experience to good use, by moulding Osasuna's young stars into a competitive and exciting outfit.
David Garcia (40 appearances), Alex Berenguer (39), Mikel Merino (38), Miguel Olavide (30), Unai Garcia (29), Maikel Mesa (17), Jose Garcia (12), Aitor Buñuel (11), Antonio Otegui (11) and Javi Martinez (2 appearances) are the precocious talents who have come off the prolific production line at Tajonar, their training ground, and fired the club to promotion. More experienced members of the squad, such as the Flaño brothers, Oier Sanjurjo and the tireless Roberto Torres, have also played key roles in the team's success.
