Elche CF 2-3 UD Almeria
Almeria claimed another crucial victory to drag Elche into the thick of the relegation dogfight. Borja flicked the Andalusians ahead in the first half at the Martinez Valero, but Pelayo equalised not long after the interval. Ximo Navarro restored Almeria's advantage with a scrappy goal 10 minutes later, before Quique made it 3-1 with a quarter of an hour left. Although Dominique Malonga pulled it back to 3-2 in added time, it was too little, too late for the hosts, whose defeat cost coach Alberto Toril his job.
UCAM Murcia CF 1-0 CD Tenerife
Tenerife's automatic promotion aspirations were dealt a major blow when they were narrowly beaten at La Condomina. Tito got the only goal of the game, stabbing home on the follow-up after Fran Perez's header had been saved. Despite David Morillas being sent off, UCAM held on for three big points that propel them into mid-table. The Canary Islanders, for their part, remain in the playoff spots.
Levante UD 1-0 R. Oviedo
Sergio Postigo's bullet header from a corner sank playoff hopefuls R. Oviedo and sealed Levante's promotion back to LaLiga Santander with six matchdays to spare. Less than a year after their relegation to LaLiga 1|2|3 was confirmed, the runaway league leaders ensured they will be rising back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Their next task at hand will be to clinch the title.
R. Valladolid CF 1-1 CD Numancia
The spoils were shared in what was a keenly contested clash at the Estadio Municipal Jose Zorrilla. After a number of near misses at both ends, Numancia broke the deadlock on 65' through Marc Mateu's wonderful solo effort on the counter, but an equally superb run and finish from Jose levelled the proceedings. The draw leaves R. Valladolid on the fringe of the playoffs, while Numancia stay in mid-table.
R. Zaragoza 1-2 Getafe CF
Getafe came from behind to grab an important win at La Romareda as they, too, eye an immediate return to LaLiga Santander. Angel's 20th LaLiga 1|2|3 strike of the season gave Zaragoza the lead, but a close-range finish from Jorge Molina and Alvaro Raton's unfortunate own goal turned the encounter around and took the visitors up to third in the table.
AD Alcorcon 0-2 Cadiz CF
Cadiz climbed up to fourth and heaped more woe on relegation-threatened Alcorcon at Santo Domingo. Khalifa Papa Sankare nodded Alvaro Cervera's charges in front from a free-kick in the 14th minute and Alvaro Garcia sealed the deal just after the hour mark, latching on to a through ball and unleashing a low drive into the far bottom corner.
CD Lugo 1-2 Girona FC
Girona took another stride towards automatic promotion by triumphing in Lugo on a matchday when some of their pursuers slipped up. A commanding first-half performance got the job done for Pablo Machin's men, who went 2-0 up inside the opening 20 minutes through a Carlos Hernandez own goal and Samuele Longo's penalty. Joselu converted a spot-kick of his own in stoppage time to make it 2-1, although this strike will have provided scant consolation to the hosts, who squandered the chance to close in on the playoff spots. The Catalans, for their part, retain a seven-point cushion over third place.
Cordoba CF 1-1 CD Mirandes
There was a dramatic ending to this relegation six-pointer which meant that both sides ultimately had to settle for a solitary point apiece. Cordoba looked on course to net a vital victory through Jose Antonio Caro's 60th-minute effort, but Urko Vera headed home an equaliser deep into injury time to hand basement boys Mirandes the slightest hint of a lifeline.
Sevilla Atletico 2-3 RCD Mallorca
Mallorca picked up three precious points at the Sanchez-Pizjuan, where Sevilla At. had only lost once before this term. Thierry Moutinho's brace – one of which was a real screamer – and a Brandon penalty boosted the islanders' survival hopes, while Ivi was at the double for the Andalusians, who pushed for a late leveller but were unable to find one.
SD Huesca 2-0 Rayo Vallecano
Ten-man Rayo were put to the sword as Huesca reinvigorated their promotion dreams by climbing back into the playoff places after a four-month absence from the top six. David Ferreiro curled the home team into the lead with a fabulous strike right on the hour mark and Samu Saiz made sure of the result by dispatching a penalty with the last kick of the game.
Nastic 0-1 CF Reus
The Nou Estadi was absolutely bouncing for this Catalan derby, which presented Nastic with a prime opportunity to lift themselves out of the drop zone and plunge their regional rivals into real trouble. It was not to be, however, as Reus went away with the bragging rights and three massive points courtesy of Mayor's 90th-minute winner.
