- The fact that the stadium is called the Cartagonova owes to the city's name during Roman times (Carthago Nova).
- The ground hosted its first match on 7 February 1988 as Cartagena FC played out a goalless stalemate with Real Burgos. However, it wasn't until 1997 that the arena was officially inaugurated, when Spain Under-21s took on Malta.
- The stadium can currently house 15,105 spectators, whilst the playing surface measures 105 metres x 68 metres.
- Cartagena's home has hosted a number of Spain U21 games over the years and the club welcomed the Spanish senior team in 2000 for their fixture against Poland. Interestingly enough, these aren't the only two national sides to have graced the Cartagonova pitch, with South Korea and Finland also having contested a match at the stadium in 2002.
- As well as hosting sporting events, the ground has also served as the venue for music concerts. Alejandro Sanz and Gloria Estefan are amongst the stars to have performed at the stadium.
