Getafe CF will be playing Liga BBVA football next season after a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano on the final day of the championship. Ciprian Marica was the hero of the match after scoring two goals for the team from the south of the capital.
Cosmin Contra's team threw everything into the game from the first minute, launching an assault on Rubén Martínez’s goal. Ángel Lafita, with a wicked cross-cum-shot and an effort across the goal from inside the box was the liveliest player for Getafe. On the verge of half-time, Getafe finally got their just deserts with a goal from Marica that left the visitors very close to achieving their dream.
For the second half, Rayo's manager, Paco Jémez, sought to breathe new life into his side by bringing on Seba Fernández and Rubén Rochina for Raúl Baena and Tito. The change soon bore fruit for the Franjirrojos, who levelled the match after 67 minutes through Roberto Trashorras.
Despite a draw being enough for Getafe, the Azulones had to suffer the home team's onslaughts until the dying minutes. Ciprian put the nail in the coffin with his second goal of the match, this time from the penalty spot in added time, to seal safety for Contra's team.
