There may not have been any LALIGA EA SPORTS action this past week, but there were important matches in LALIGA HYPERMOTION and many other headlines besides. The main storylines are outlined below.
LALIGA EA SPORTS players score decisive goals in the UEFA Nations League
The world of football has been focused on international matches over the past week. In the UEFA Nations League, there were several thrilling games, including Spain’s victory on penalties over the Netherlands and France’s own win on penalties against Croatia. In both, LALIGA EA SPORTS players scored decisive spot kicks, such as Ferran Torres, Álex Baena, Pedri, Kylian Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Levante UD stay top of LALIGA HYPERMOTION
There was also a full round of fixtures in LALIGA HYPERMOTION, where Levante UD remain top of the table after their 3-2 victory over CD Castellón. An 88th-minute Adrián de la Fuente penalty earned the team from Valencia all three points.
CD Mirandés move back into the promotion places
It remains ever so tight at the top of the LALIGA HYPERMOTION table, with CD Mirandés in second place and just one point behind Levante UD. The team from Miranda de Ebro overcame Real Racing Club 2-1 to leapfrog their promotion rivals.
Gabi is the new coach of Real Zaragoza
Real Zaragoza have a new coach, with former player Gabi taking the reins at La Romareda. Although the 41-year-old is best remembered for all that he achieved as captain of Atlético de Madrid, he also played for Real Zaragoza earlier in his career and takes over after impressing as coach of Getafe CF’s B team.
Augusto Batalla is staying at Rayo Vallecano
Rayo Vallecano announced this past week that goalkeeper Augusto Batalla is staying with the club from Vallecas. After impressing during his loan from Argentinian side River Plate, Rayo Vallecano have completed a permanent transfer for the 28-year-old shot-stopper, who has signed a five-year contract.
Bryan Gil’s season is over
There was some bad news for Girona FC over the international break, as Bryan Gil, who is on loan from Tottenham, had to undergo surgery for a ligament injury in his right knee. He is expected to miss four to five months, so his 2024/25 campaign is over.
Marc Casadó avoids surgery
There was more positive news in the case of FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó’s injury. Despite suffering a ligament injury in his right knee, Casadó doesn’t require treatment and is only expected to be out of action for a couple of months.
Bilbao prepares for the Europa League final
The 2024/25 Europa League final will be held at Athletic Club’s San Mamés stadium on May 21st, and this past week there was an event at the stadium in which the LALIGA EA SPORTS club and the local authorities launched the motto “Una final de aupa”, or “A final to live”. Athletic Club hope to play in that final themselves, as they’ve already reached the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Athletic Club support Non-League Day in England
Non-League Day took place in England during the international break, where football fans were encouraged to go and watch one of their local teams during the weekend. Athletic Club helped support this initiative, teaming up with six Non-League clubs who also play in red and white stripes, namely: Altrincham FC, Bromsgrove Sporting, Evesham United, Sheppey United, Steyning Town and Witton Albion.
LALIGA EA SPORTS returns on Thursday, March 27th
It has been confirmed that FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna’s postponed Matchday 27 fixture will be held on Thursday, March 27th, at 21:00 CET. This will be the first match back following the international break, and Barça could move three points clear of title rivals Real Madrid with a victory.
