It is pre-season and there is no time for rest. Just hours after beating Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid held a Saturday morning training session at Melbourne's AAMI Park in preparation for this Sunday's game against Melbourne Victory.
However, this training session was going to be somewhat special. As many as 45 dreams came true on the cold and sunny Melbourne morning when a group of 45 local children were allowed to spend the day with their heroes. It was smiles all round as the children greeted and chatted with the Atletico players. Of course, there was no shortage of autographs and photo opportunities to immortalise the moment, but there was more to come. The children even felt what it was like to play alongside LaLiga players for a day thanks to the training clinic at the end of the session.
Out on the pitch, Diego Simeone split his team into two groups to prepare for the next game of their international tour. Those players who started against Tottenham jogged and stretched, whilst the rest of the squad that travelled to Australia completed an intensive training session with possession, shooting and tactical drills.
Atletico Madrid will conclude their LaLiga World adventure in Australia on Sunday when they play Melbourne Victory at Geelong's Simonds Stadium (06:00 CET). The Atletico squad will take a flight back to Madrid on Monday in order to continue their preparations for the upcoming 2016/17 LaLiga Santander season.
