David Garcia, Jose Naranjo, Brandon, Alex Alegria, Nano and Diego Johannesson are a handful of names that hogged many a headline this past season. These youngsters definitively established themselves at first-team level and showcased oodles of ability.

Garcia was a bastion in the At. Osasuna backline, putting in a series of assured displays and cementing his status as a linchpin in Enrique Martin's plans in defence. His aerial prowess was a key factor in Osasuna's run to promotion back to the Liga BBVA after a two-year absence.

Naranjo caused a real stir at Gimnastic, particularly in the latter stages of the campaign. He scored six times in the club's last eight fixtures in a rich vein of form that helped them secure a playoff place. He also proved himself to be quite the free-kick specialist.

As for Brandon, he gradually gained a foothold in the RCD Mallorca side and finished on a high with a brace – two of his six goals for the season – in the safety-clinching final-matchday victory over R. Valladolid CF. Alegria, for his part, carved out a reputation as a hugely promising marksman with 12 goals for CD Numancia.

Speaking of goals, a tally of 14 provides ample proof of the predatory talents possessed by Alexander Mesa, or Nano to use his regular moniker. The CD Tenerife striker kicked on in a big way over the course of the campaign, catching the eye with his fearlessness and voracity in addition to his exploits when facing opposition keepers.

Johannesson, often known by the nickname Diegui, arrived at R. Oviedo in 2011 and has risen through the youth ranks and into the first team. This past season saw him get his maiden game time in LaLiga, as well as making the international breakthrough, winning his first Iceland cap against the United States on 31 January 2016 after being granted nationality by the land from which his father hails.
