It was in May 2012 that Jesús Olmo snapped his Achilles tendon during a match against RC Celta de Vigo. That was to be the Sabadell defender’s last appearance for the Catalan club for the next year and a half.
Two operations and 515 days later, he returned to strip out in team’s blue and white jersey for the last official match against Real Jaén. Coming in to replace Javi Barral at left-back, Olmo helped the team see out a 3-0 victory in the Nova Creu Alta, a result that moved the club up to tenth in the Liga Adelante.
After the match, the former FC Barcelona youth academy player spoke about his feelings after returning from a 16-month break. “I felt strange after so much time away. The fans got behind me and started shouting my name, which gave me strength”. The 28-year-old also expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped him during his recovery.
"The team knows me as a positive guy. I’ve worked hard to be here again and I’m very happy”, he explained. Up next for Javier Salamero’s men is a Catalan derby against Girona FC, a match for which Olmo is already preparing. “We have to win. We are really up for it and are confident”, he concluded.
