The division's top four all claimed maximum points in their respective games, as they continue to prove their promotion credentials in the ever-competitive LaLiga 1|2|3.

AD Alcorcon 0-0 UCAM Murcia CF

These two teams shared the spoils in a goalless encounter at Santo Domingo, a result which does very little for either side's hopes of pulling away from the drop zone. New signing Foued Kadir made his debut for the Madrilenians, who found Biel Ribas in inspired form in the visitors' goal, as their efforts to strike a second-half winner ultimately went unrewarded.

Nastic 1-1 CD Tenerife

Juan Merino's first game in the Nastic dugout ended honours even as Tenerife left the Nou Estadi with a point. The hosts fell behind when Cristo Gonzalez bundled an inswinging corner over the line in the 12th minute. However, the Catalans restored parity after the break courtesy of Jose Carlos's deflected effort from the angle, leaving the Andalusian boss to reflect on a 1-1 stalemate in his maiden game at the helm.

Elche CF 2-3 Cadiz CF

A pulsating encounter ultimately went the visitors' way at the Martinez Valero. Although the hosts struck first through Pelayo, Alfredo Ortuño and Dani Guiza turned the tables in Cadiz's favour. Armando thought that he had snatched a share of the spoils for Elche with his late equaliser, but the away team had the last laugh as Guiza grabbed a winner at the death.

R. Zaragoza 0-2 Girona FC

High-flying Girona produced a businesslike display in Zaragoza to rack up their 10th win of the campaign. Francisco Sandaza put the Catalans in the driving seat in the 69th minute and then, despite the home side's attempted reaction, Ruben Alcaraz sealed the deal in stoppage time.

Sevilla Atletico 5-3 R. Oviedo

There were just 11 minutes on the clock when Sevilla Atletico broke the deadlock in this goal fest, with Ivi's penalty also serving to open the floodgates. They had doubled their lead by the half-hour mark and then made it 3-0 a few minutes before the interval through Fede. Although Oviedo threatened a comeback when Toche converted a spot-kick of his own, efforts from David Carmona and Alejandro Pozo settled the contest, rendering Toche's second goal and Miguel Linares's later header mere consolations.

UD Almeria 0-1 Getafe CF

Almeria and Getafe played out an exciting encounter which was only decided at the death. It was not until the 87th minute that Jorge Molina caught the home defence off guard to score the only goal of the game and seal three valuable points for a Getafe side still dreaming of promotion. Almeria, who had been unbeaten in their last six home games, remain rooted towards the bottom of the table.

R. Valladolid 1-0 CF Reus

As happened in Almeria, the match at the Jose Zorrilla also kept everyone in suspense until the closing minutes. This time it was the home side who took the points, thanks to a Raul de Tomas 80th-minute header from a set piece. The result sees Valladolid continue their climb up the table and join the race for a play-off place.

RCD Mallorca 2-0 CD Mirandes

This must-win match between two sides in dire need of points had a happy ending for Mallorca, who ended a run of four straight defeats to climb out of the relegation zone. The home side also left it late as Dejan Lekic gave them an 80th-minute lead before Lago Junior secured the win in time added on. Meanwhile Mirandes will have to keep battling to find a way out of the bottom four.

CD Numancia 0-0 SD Huesca

There were no goals in the first match of the year at the Nuevo Los Pajaritos, although both teams had their chances to score. The best chances of the game fell to Numancia, with Manu del Moral bringing their attacking threat. Despite both teams' attempts, the game ended in a deadlock.

Levante UD 1-0 CD Lugo

Levante's good form continued with a third straight win as they maintained their lead at the top of the table. Levante were made to work for the points and they had to wait until the 73rd minute for Roger Marti to break the deadlock from the penalty spot. Lugo pushed hard for an equaliser, but a solid defensive display saw the home side take the win.

Cordoba CF 0-0 Rayo Vallecano

It was a game of two halves in Cordoba, with the home side controlling the first forty-five minutes and the visitors dominating proceedings after the break. Cordoba are still struggling at their Nuevo Arcangel stadium where they have not won since 24 September, whilst Rayo continue their poor run of results away from home (1 win, 2 draws and 7 defeats).
