Evenly matched early on
With both teams looking to close out their Liga BBVA seasons in the best possible fashion, Atletico Madrid and RC Celta were fully focussed as they locked horns at the Vicente Calderon. Both sides started off with plenty of intensity and the first half was an even affair.
Oblak shines
The best chance in the opening 45 minutes came from a set piece and was created by the Galicians. Nolito lined up a free-kick from the edge of the area, but was unable to beat Jan Oblak. The Atletico keeper saved at full stretch to keep the scores level going in at half-time.
Torres continues his hot streak
If there is one player who can boast having finished the season on his finest form, it is Fernando Torres. The Madrid-born striker found the back of the net again against the Vigo outfit and proved that he is on top of his game. Torres got on the end of a corner kick to the near post that was headed on and netted with a great volley at the far post to put his side in the ascendancy.
Griezmann seals it
The visitors barely had time to catch their breath before Atletico doubled their lead. Torres was involved once again, although it was Antoine Griezmann who finished it off. The Frenchman pounced on the rebound after the Spanish striker clattered the crossbar with a spectacular bicycle kick, heading the ball into an empty net to give his side a cushion.
Tiago returns
Celta tried their best right to the death, but their midfield could not seem to link up with the front line. Whilst they were trying to get back into the game, the Vicente Calderon celebrated the return of Tiago. After a five-and-half-month lay-off, the Portuguese player returned to the fray with the Rojiblancos, topping off a happy evening for Atletico.
