Valencia CF were victorious at the Nuevo Los Cármenes thanks to a goal from Jonas in the 94th minute to break the deadlock against Granada in what turned out to be the last act of the Liga BBVA fixture. Éver Banega started the counter attack, playing in Sergio Canales down the left, with his cross reaching the Brazilian Jonas, who gave Miroslav Djukić’s side the win which now takes them to nine points overall.
Granada took the upper hand from the start, with deep lying Allan Nyom pulling the strings. Indeed it was thanks to great play from the French-born player that the home side almost scored, but Argentine Diego Buonanotte was unable to take advantage.
The clearest opening for the away side came when Andrés Guardado worked his way into the area but saw his shot blocked by Roberto Fernández in the Granada goal.
When the match seemed all but over, Valencia launched one last counterattack, lead by Banega, who played in substitute Canales, with the left footer’s cross being converted by Jonas to give Valencia their third win in Liga BBVA.
This defeat leaves Granada on five points, yet to score or take any points at home, with their last win coming on the opening day of the season away at CA Osasuna. Valencia’s win gives them their first points away from home, meaning they sit seventh one nine points having claimed back-to-back wins.
