Zaragoza confirm sixth spot

R. Zaragoza's dream of promotion to the Liga BBVA remains very much alive. Los maños maintained their hold on sixth place after a 2-2 draw against CD Leganés on the final matchday of the division, and will fight for a berth in the top flight via the play-offs.

The game could not have got off to a better start for Leganés, who took the lead with just four minutes played. The hosts launched a great counter-attack that saw Chuli receive the ball on the run and, after evading the attentions of Jesús Vallejo, produce a masterful finish to make it 1-0. Despite the goal, Zaragoza were unfazed and showed heart and thrust to turn the scoreboard on its head. First, Willian José netted from the penalty spot, before Eldin Hadžić took advantage of an excellent backheeled pass from the Brazilian to score. However, there was still time for Leganés' Javier Eraso to level the clash shortly before half time.

With SD Ponferradina lurking and ready to leapfrog them in the table, Zaragoza battled to get back in front in the second half and give themselves greater breathing space. The visitors’ efforts saw Eldin come closest with a close-range attempt that was thwarted by Queco Piña. Leganés also pressed forward in the final minutes, but the men from Aragon held firm and came away with a point as they claimed their ticket to the play-offs.
