Early goal
Copa del Rey semi-finalists RC Celta took the lead after only five minutes. Carles Planas broke down the left and fed Bongonda who dribbled into the area and beat Javi Varas with a superb shot into the top corner. It was the Belgian forward's second goal of the season.
The response
UD Las Palmas came back into the game strongly looking for an equaliser and pressuring high up the pitch. After 19 minutes, Willian Jose shot from outside the area only to see his effort come back off the woodwork.
Penalty
At the end of the first half, Celta defender Gustavo Cabral handled in the area and the referee awarded a penalty. Jonathan Viera took the coolest of spot kicks, slipping the ball past Sergio Alvarez with minimum effort for his fourth goal this season.
Orellana sent off
Celta were left with 10 men in the 73rd minute when Fabian Orellana fell inside the area and touched the ball with his hand to earn a second yellow card. With an man extra, Las Palmas looked to finish off their visitors.
Late reward
Quique Setien’s men fought hard for a winner and were rewarded at the end. After creating a string of chances, Willian Jose bagged the winner, the Brazilian striker claiming his fourth goal of the campaign. The win moved Las Palmas up to 16th in the standings, one point above the bottom three.
