Previously… Óscar Alfredo Ruggeri (Rosario, Argentina, 1962) is a retired Argentine player who ran out for Spanish sides Real Madrid, CD Logroñes and Real Jaén, and, on his home continent, for such illustrious teams as River Plate, Boca Juniors and Club América.

His achievements… Having made his name at the top two sides in Argentina, River and Boca, Ruggeri was signed up by Logroñes in 1988. Real Madrid liked what they saw in his 34 appearances, and brought him in the following season. He only spent one year with the Whites, but he won a league title and was a lynchpin in the side. That wasn’t the only success of his career, as he also lifted a Libertadores Cup, an Intercontinental Cup and the CONCACAF Copa de Campeones.

After hanging up his boots…  His last season was with CA Lanús in 1997, and from there he went on to manage sides such as Elche CF, CA San Lorenzo de Almagro, CD Guadalajara and CA Independiente. He currently works as a TV pundit in Argentina.

Did you know… Ruggeri is one of Argentina’s legends, winning 97 caps for the national side and lifting the ’86 World Cup, two Copas de America (in ’91 and ’93) and a Confederations Cup in 1992.
