LUN 22.12.2014

Previously… Bixente Lizarazu (San Juan de la Luz, France, 1969) was one of the best left wingbacks of the 1990’s, winning titles in three different countries: France, Germany and Spain. In the 1996-97 season he played sixteen matches for Athletic Bilbao.

His achievements… A member of the best France side in history, he won the World Cup in 1998, the European Championships in 2000, and two Confederations Cups, in 2001 and 2003. His best stint in club competitions was with Bayern Munich, where he won a European Cup, five Bundesligas and four German Cups.

After hanging up his boots… Ending his playing days with Bayern, the team with whom he’d been a champion most times, he then dedicated himself to his other great passion in life: surfing. Lizarazu has also been known to work from time to time as a TV commentator.

Did you know… In his last season with Bayern he wore the number 69 shirt, alluding to the year of his birth, 1969, his weight, 69 kilos, and his height, 1m 69cm.
