He signed for SS Lazio when he was at the peak of his career, although he never managed to adapt to Italian football. He also wore the FC Barcelona shirt for a year before signing for Middlesbrough FC. He returned to form at the English club and played there until his retirement in 2008.
His achievements: He won the Copa del Rey with Valencia during the 1998-99 season, as well as the Spanish Super Cup the season before with Barcelona. With Valencia under the management of Héctor Cúper, he reached two UEFA Champions League finals, although he was unable to lift the trophy on either occasion. In England he won the League Cup with Middlesbrough in 2004.
After hanging up his boots: The former Valencia midfielder moved away from the world of football in order to focus on music, as he had begun a career as a DJ in England. He formed part of the Gasteiz Gang group and even managed to participate in the Benicassim International Festival in 2011.
