Previously… Carlos Fernando Navarro Montoya (Medellín, Colombia, 1966) was a goalkeeper who began his footballing career in Argentina before enjoying a spell in Spain, where he played for CF Extremadura, CP Mérida and CD Tenerife. Afterwards, the Colombian returned to South American football.
His achievements… On the other side of the Atlantic, 'El Mono' enjoyed one of his finest periods as a footballer at Boca Juniors, winning the Supercopa Sudamericana in 1989, the Recopa Sudamericana in 1990, the 1992 Copa Master and the Copa de Oro in 1993. Navarro Montoya then crossed the pond to spend three seasons in the Liga BBVA and one in the Liga Adelante.
After hanging up his boots... Following a career spanning more than 25 years, the keeper called time on his playing days in 2009 after ending the season with Tacuarembó FC. Having enjoyed a long professional career, he did not cut his ties with the football world. In 2013, he was appointed as coach of Argentinian club Chacarita Junior.
Did you know… Montoya played for Colombia in the qualifying play-offs for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, earning three caps for the country. Argentina wanted him to represent their national team in the years that followed, but due to regulations he was unable to turn out for the albicelestes.
