Previously… César Ferrando began his playing career with his boyhood side UD Tavernes. In 1977 he signed for Valencia CF, where he would start out with the reserve side, CD Mestalla, before breaking into the first team in 1980, where he remained for next four seasons. He parted ways with Valencia in 1984 and went on to play for UD Salamanca, CE Sabadell, Olímpic de Xátiva, UD Alzira and Ontinyet CF, where he would eventually finish his career.
His achievements… He spent four Liga BBVA seasons with Valencia, where in his first year the team won the UEFA Super Cup (1980). Los Che beat Nottingham Forest in the two-legged final of that season. Later on, he achieved promotion to the First Division with CD Sabadell at the end of the 85/86 season.
After hanging up his boots… César Ferrando decided to remain involved with the world of football and got his managerial career underway with the same team he debuted with as a player: UD Tavernes. Before making the move to the Liga BBVA, he took charge of CF Gandía and Valencia B. He took the reins at Albacete Balompié during the 2002/03 season and later that very year won promotion to the Liga BBVA. His good work with the Castile-La Mancha outfit earned him a move to Atlético de Madrid for the 2004/05 campaign, where he spent one year as the boss of the rojiblancos before returning to Albacete and then going on to train other teams like Club Gimnàstic de Tarragona, Elche CF and Johor CF in the USA.
Did you know?… The ex-Valencia midfielder has always shown a fondness for teams from "his neck of the woods". Six of the eight clubs he played for were based in the Community of Valencia, while four of his eight managerial roles were also with Valencian teams.
