Villarreal CF beat Real Sociedad de Fútbol (1-2) on the road on the final Liga BBVA matchday of the 2013/2014 season.
The two teams’ exciting brands of football clashed in the Estadio de Anoeta. In the first half it was the visitors who, as well controlling the tempo of the match, enjoyed the most incisive chances. Giovani dos Santos and Uche fired several warning shots before the Mexican gave Villarreal the lead. The visiting midfielder picked up the ball on the right wing and capped off a great individual move by putting the ball beyond the reach of Claudio Bravo.
The second half was a very different story to the first. Real Sociedad dominated Marcelino García Toral’s side although the Yellows, who were by now well settled into the match, also looked comfortable attacking the spaces left behind by the Txuri-Urdin, which is how Villarreal doubled its lead. A great counterattack led by the player who would eventually be the man of the match, Giovani, was finished to perfection by Nigerian striker Uche to give the visitors a cushion. Towards the end of the game, Vela scored to seal the final 1-2 scoreline, leaving Villarreal in sixth place, one ahead of Real Sociedad, although the two teams finish level on points (59).
