The UEFA Europa League continues to enjoy Spanish representation after Villarreal and Sevilla sealed their places in the next round. Athletic Club, meanwhile, were knocked out by Torino.
The Yellows travelled to Austria as they took on Jonathan Soriano’s FC Salzburg. Marcelino’s side were too strong, downing the Austrian side 1-3 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate thanks to a double from Luciano Vietto and a Giovani Dos Santos strike.
Sevilla had a tough tie against Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany, however they saw off their hosts 2-3 thanks to a stellar performance from midfielder Víctor Machín, who scored a brace. The reigning champions were pushed all the way, before Vitolo made sure of the win in the final minutes.
San Mamés saw a vibrant tie full of drama as Torino won 2-3 against Athletic (5-4 on aggregate). The side from Bilbao were always chasing the game, and came back to level twice, however they were unable to take the game to extra time. Villarreal and Sevilla, the only Spanish sides left in the tournament, will find out their opponents for the draw at 13:00 CET tomorrow.
