It was a magical night in the Benito Villamarín. Real Betis secured their place in next season’s Liga BBVA after beating AD Alcorcón 3-0. The Seville side’s attacking duo of Rubén Castro and Jorge Molina took charge of delighting the fans, who were able to celebrate a return to life in the Spanish topflight one year on from being relegated.
Betis needed a win to seal their passage to the Liga BBVA and put in a fighting performance from the very beginning. In the 6th minute, Dani Ceballos was through one-on-one with Javi Jiménez, but the visitors’ keeper ensured his side did not concede early on. In the 20', Rubén Castro got the party underway. The Canary Island forward made it 1-0 with an exquisite lob. Alcorcón had a string of chances of their own during the final stages of the first half, but were unable to make any of them count.
The referee pointed to the spot six minutes after the restart when Dani Ceballos was brought down in the box. Castro dispatched the resulting penalty to double the home team’s lead (2-0). Jorge Molina got in on the act in the 65th minute by latching onto a rebound from a Cristiano Piccini effort to make it 3-0. Castro and Molina have become the Liga Adelante’s most lethal striking duo since the 1956-57 season, having bagged 51 goals between them during the current league campaign. The party really got underway when the final whistle was blown and the players had secured their return to the Liga BBVA following a dream season.
