Two goals in five minutes. That was how Valencia CF greeted Elche CF after the defeat in the last round against RC Deportivo. The Mestalla side claimed the three points on matchday 9 of the Liga BBVA with a 3-1 win to move into third pending the result of Sevilla FC’s game on Sunday.
Shkodran Mustafi, a world champion with Germany, opened the scoring off a pass from José Luis Gayà. The captain Dani Parejo extended their lead to 2-0 and steadied the ship for the side managed by Nuno, who contained Elche and were ahead going into the break.
The second half started much as the first had ended, with Valencia committed and dominating and Elche falling back and playing on the counter-attack. David Lombán scored an own goal and put the game to bed for the home side. There was time to celebrate with Álvaro Negredo making his debut, going on for Rodrigo Moreno, and receiving an ovation from the Mestalla. And time for Jonathas to score a final consolation goal for Elche to make it 3-1.
