The last day of the #LigaBBVAExperience in Gran Canaria was certainly not short on action. The day kicked off bright and early and it ended with a real treat, as the followers were VIP guests at the entertaining clash between UD Las Palmas and Real Madrid. It had been some 14 years since Los Blancos had last played on the island and a group of international LaLiga fans, hailing from Georgia and the Ukraine were in attendance at the Gran Canaria stadium, thanks to this ambitious global initiative.
After two days spent soaking in the Spanish culture, sampling the local cuisine and gaining a first-hand insight into what a typical weekend of LaLiga football involves, came the moment that all of the guests had been waiting for. The fans had a great time in the pre-match build-up as they shared plenty of laughter with the local supporters' groups in the fan zone, which was laid on by the Canary Island club. The 'Amarillos por el Mundo' ('International Yellows') were on hand to make the international guests feel part of things with their face painting and the supporters also went away having learnt several chants.
As the followers made their way into the ground, they were presented with a certificate to commemorate their stay from the Las Palmas legend and the club's current honorary president, German Devora. The visitors then headed over to watch both teams arrive, after which they took their places pitchside to watch the pre-match warm-up, before finding their seats and soaking in the exciting atmosphere of a Liga BBVA game.
With the stadium packed to the brim and some of the best players in the world on show, all that now remained was for the supporters to sit back and enjoy the game. As one of the followers enthusiastically explained, "I'm a LaLiga commentator back in the Ukraine, but I do all of my work from within the studio. So for me, being here live far exceeds my wildest dreams. It's something that I'll never forget." The fans head back home with plenty of photos and videos and the signatures of the likes of Luka Modric, Pepe, Keylor Navas and Juan Carlos Valero, but above all, they take away the memories of having experienced a LaLiga game to the max. Catch you next time!
