UD Ibiza can proudly boast being a LaLiga SmartBank team after their long-dreamed-of victory against UCAM Murcia which now sees them firmly instated in the world of professional football for the first time.
For the Ibizan outfit, however, it was a case of third time lucky. After coming within a whisker of the playoffs in their first outing in Segunda B, and after having being knocked out in their debut playoff tie for promotion to LaLiga Smartbank, this time around they weren’t going to miss their opportunity. Juan Carlos Carcedo's side, who qualified for this final phase as top of their group, dispatched Real Madrid Castilla in the playoffs’ semi-final before overcoming their final obstacle, UCAM Murcia, in the final.
Barely six years old, the Ibiza island club have made the history books. Their consistency throughout the season along with their excellent football have earned them this well-deserved promotion. UD Ibiza, welcome to the top flight!
