Uche stuns Elche

Villarreal CF won the final match in the 12th round of Liga BBVA fixtures thanks to an Ikechukwu Uche strike, a goal that was made after a strong run by Hernán Pérez and a touch on the cross from Jonathan Pereira. Marcelino García Toral's side now sit in fourth place in the table.

The first opportunity of the match went to Villarreal, when a rapid transition between Cani, Giovani dos Santos and Hernán Pérez saw the Paraguayan drag his shot across goal. A little later, Uche hit the side netting. The home side's response was Strong however, as Carles Gil centred the ball from the right and Aaron Ñíguez let fly.

In the second half good interplay from Manu Trigueros and Uche set up Mario Gaspad for what looked a certain goal, however Manu Herrera produced a top save, something which he then repeated 20 minutes from the end to keep out Bruno Soriano's powerful header. However when the clock was almost up, Hernán Pérez broke down the left, crossed the ball in, and after a touch by Pereira, Uche was able to score the winner.

Elche remain on 13 points, whilst Villarreal move three points clear of Athletic Club on 23, and currently occupy the fourth and final UEFA Champions League spot.
