This Wednesday, June 10, R. Valladolid CF and UD Las Palmas will begin their fight for the third promotion place from Liga Adelante to Liga BBVA. It will be the third time in which the two sides have featured in the play-offs since the format began in the 2010/11 season.

For the Pucelano outfit, Rubi’s men will be looking for the same result that they attained in the promotion play-off in 2012. In the first round of the play-offs, Valladolid overcame Cordoba CF 3-0 on aggregate. That allowed them to meet AD Alcorcon in the final and the men from Zorrilla took a one-goal lead from the first-leg. By half-time in the return, the Madrid side had managed to level, but a goal from Javi Guerra at the start of the second-half opened the doors of the Liga BBVA to Valladolid.

The side from Castilla know what it is like to win, but they also know the feeling of defeat, the Blanquivioletas played in the play-off the year before in 2011. That year the Pucelano outfit were eliminated by Elche CF after losing 3-2 on aggregate in the first round of the play-offs.

Third chance of promotion for Las Palmas

The Canarian outfit come into the tie having played the same number of play-offs. A new tie and a new opportunity for Las Palmas, who have already had two years trying to make the jump to Liga BBVA. In the first of these occasions in 2013, the Yellows were eliminated in the first round of the play-offs after losing 3-2 to UD Almeria.

The next year in 2014, Las Palmas did manage to play the final after eliminating R. Sporting in the first round. Whilst the Canarian fans were celebrating their promotion as they lead Cordoba CF by a single goal, their desired objective slipped away in the 92nd minute thanks to a goal by Ulises Dávila for the visitors. Now, having overcome that blow, and after a great season, the Canarians return to fight for their dream and finish what they started.

It will be an exciting and well-balanced match we will witness in this first game of the play-offs. Two teams that will fight with all their might to get to the final and win the longed-for third promotion place to the Liga BBVA.
