The Women's First Division has gone global, to Rio de Janeiro to be precise. The top tier of women's football in Spain will be represented at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Andressa Alves, Natalia Gaitan and Nicole Regnier will be in action for their countries throughout the competition.

Andressa Alves is one of FC Barcelona's marquee signings, having swapped Montpellier for Catalonia. The talented forward with a real eye for goal will be in action for Brazil. Her performances at the World Cup in Canada, including her goal against Spain, earned her a move to European shores. Brazil, who have the legendary Marta Da Silva in their ranks, kick off their tournament at 16:00 (local time) against China, while South Africa and Sweden are the other sides in Group E.

Another player who plies her trade in Spain and will feature in Rio is Natalia Gaitan. The Colombia captain and VCF Women star will make her competition bow today at 22:00 (local time) against France. New Zealand and the all-conquering United States complete Group G.

"Since I was very young, I dreamed of playing in the Olympic Games, I'd tell my parents they'd see me there one day… 14 years later I have the great honour of representing my country at this important event," said Nicole Regnier. The Rayo player is also in Rio and will line up alongside Natalia Gaitan. The forward is back among the Colombia ranks, after missing out at the last World Cup in Canada. It will be a dream come true for three Women's First Division players today.
