David Zurutuza smashes the deadlock
The midfielder broke his Liga BBVA duck in style. Not long after things got underway, in the seventh minute to be precise, Zurutuza latched on to the ball from a throw-in, lifted it over a bamboozled defender, let it bounce and then unleashed an unstoppable finish to put his side 1-0 to the good.
Real organisation from Real Sociedad
Eibar struggled to find their rhythm in the opening minutes and could not play the way they are capable of. They found themselves stymied by the well-organised visitors, whom Eusebio had sent out with a clear game plan and who dictated possession to begin with. However, the hosts started to come into the match more as the minutes ticked by.
Eibar hit back
While La Real dominated early doors, Eibar gradually wrested away control of proceedings. Jose Luis Mendilibar's men woke up and managed to draw level. Keko played the ball back to Ander Capa on the flank and the latter whipped it into the area, where Sergi Enrich attacked it and succeeded in nodding home via a deflection. The equaliser galvanised the home team, who had their Basque rivals on the ropes right up to the break.
Two heads are better than one
Eibar made a much brighter start to the second half than to the first and eventually gained the lead, once again showing their aerial prowess. This time it was Gonzalo Escalante who got the goal, although it was previous scorer Enrich who set it up, teasing a cross into the box that Geronimo Rulli tried and failed to cut out, paving the way for the unmarked Escalante to head into the empty net.
Vela's chance to snatch a draw
La Real had an opportunity to make it 2-2 in the dying minutes. Carlos Vela stood over a free-kick from a dangerous position and managed to beat the wall, but could not direct his strike on target, so the Ipurua faithful were able to celebrate three points for the first time in a while.
