Neymar opener
The game started under a steady downpour and with Barcelona bossing the game. Neymar drew a sharp save from David Ospina after 17 minutes, but the Arsenal keeper could do little about the opener a couple of minutes later. Luis Suarez fed Neymar and the Brazilian fired inside the near post.
Elneny goal
Arsenal’s pace on the counter unsettled Barça at times with Alexis Sanchez, Mohamed Elneny and Danny Welbeck threatening Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s goal before halftime. They levelled the game in the 51st when Alexis Sanchez squared for Elneny and the Egyptian stroked a great shot in under the bar.
Suarez and Messi
The game was open with chances at either end, Messi forcing a save and Welbeck being denied at the last, before Barça restored their advantage. Dani Alves floated in a cross and Luis Suarez struck a stunning volley into the top corner. The game continued to ebb and flow with openings for both sides, but it was Messi who had the last say, dribbling in the area and scooping a lob over Ospina to seal the victory at the end.
The holders join fellow LaLiga competitors Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the draw for the quarter-finals.
