We're now very much at the business end of the 2015/16 campaign, as we once again revel in the battle being fought between the three heavyweights, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. There are six games to go and there's still an awful lot to play for. Football and excitement go hand in hand and as the tightest division across the major European leagues, the Liga BBVA is certainly serving up more than its fair share.
In Spain, FC Barcelona currently top the domestic standings having racked up 76 points and hold a three-point advantage over second-placed Atletico. Diego Simeone's side have picked up 73 points this term, which puts them one point and a place ahead of Real Madrid, who have collected 72 points. It doesn't get much more exciting than this, given that just one game can totally alter the complexion at the top of the table. This is the beauty of football though, and with six games to be played, there's simply no knowing how the league table will look come the end of the season.
The same cannot be said of the other European leagues, with the Liga BBVA rankings outperforming those of the domestic leagues in neighbouring countries in the tension stakes. In the English Premier League, it's Leicester City, with 72 points who occupy top spot and they boast a seven-point lead over Tottenham in second. Arsenal in third have 59 points, although the North Londoners do have a game in hand. The points gap separating first and third amounts to 13.
A similar scenario is to be seen in the German Bundesliga, where Bayern Munich's 75 points has seen them establish a seven-point cushion over their closest pursuers, Borussia Dortmund in second. Third-placed Hertha Berlin, who have 49 points, trail Bayern by 26 points.
Over in France, Laurent Blanc's PSG clinched the league title for the sixth time in the Parisian club's history back on 13 March after claiming a 9-0 away win at Troyes. Second-placed Olympique Lyon and AS Monaco in third have both picked up 55 points.
In Italy's Serie A, Juventus sit top of the pile on 76 points, six points ahead of Napoli, whilst Roma are seven points off second spot and lie 13 off the summit.
