They have a razor-sharp eye for goal, they are natural-born predators and every weekend they deliver with more goals. Sometimes luck is not on their side, but their strength and perseverance to come good when needed the most always allows them to bounce back and produce more moments of brilliance.
Rubén Castro, Sergio Ezequiel Araujo and Borja Bastón, three of the standout players at Real Betis, UD Las Palmas and R. Zaragoza, respectively. With almost one third of the competition complete, these three strikers top a list that is always just as competitive as the Liga Adelante itself.
The forward at the top of the ranking is Rubén Castro (10). The Canary Islander showed signs last season of what he is capable of in the Spanish topflight. Now, in the Liga Adelante, he is still playing for the Verdiblancos in a bid to take them back to where they belong. His ten goals for the side from the Benito Villamarín have led his team to fifth position, and allowed them to enjoy victories such as last weekend’s against FC Barcelona B, where his goal earned the side three priceless points.
Spanish football is already familiar with the skills of Borja Bastón (9). He played a major role last season in helping RC Deportivo return to the Liga BBVA. With Zaragoza he will be hoping to repeat the feat, and to do so he has his mind set on finding the net. Something he has already done nine times. The match against Alcorcón, when he scored a brace, allowed the team to return to Aragon with a highly valuable haul.
Sergio Araujo (9) has left his mark on every match with UD Las Palmas. He impressed all when he played with the Azulgranas in 2012/13. This year he continues to show off his prowess with the ball at his feet, while also frequently finding the net for the Liga Adelante leaders. Not only is he a key player, he has also taken the baton from Valerón, 'The Wizard of Arguineguín'. He is a player whose limits seem to know no bounds in the Liga Adelante.
