Spanish football has been welcoming South American talent for a long time. The Liga Adelante continues to be one of the favoured destinations for these footballers who view this division as a launching pad towards the Liga BBVA, the Spanish topflight and the home to some of the best teams in the world.
From the other side of the Atlantic, the two biggest exporters of talent to Spain are Argentina and Uruguay, with both nations represented by seven players each. Glancing down the rankings of other countries, the Liga Adelante also has six Brazilians, four Chileans, three Venezuelans, two Colombians and one Paraguayan. In total there are 30 Latin American players fighting it out in the division for their respective teams.
On the books for UD Las Palmas is Argentine Sergio Araujo, the fifth top scorer in the league with 13 goals to his name. Trailing closely behind him is SD Ponferradina Brazilian Yuri de Souza, who has notched up 12 goals so far. On the other hand, the Colombian Sporting de Gijón defender Bernardo José has clocked up the most amount of playing time of any South American man in the Liga Adelante, having already featured in 27 games. However, these are but a sample of the players who make the trip across the Atlantic Ocean to triumph on Spanish soil.
R. Valladolid CF have the most amount of Latinos of any club, with four such players togging out for the Castile and León outfit. Other teams, however, have opted to go without players from the New World for the 2014-15 season like D. Alavés, Girona FC, CD Mirandés, At Osasuna, R Racing C and CE Sabadell.
The intense and thrilling competition that is the Liga Adelante, in which the main objective is promotion, will continue to be following intently on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
