The LALIGA HYPERMOTION drama continues: direct promotion, playoff places and survival all on the line

Following Real Valladolid recently securing promotion to LALIGA EA SPORTS, this Sunday will reveal another of the teams who will accompany Los Vallisoletanos in the top flight.

CD Leganes and SD Eibar are the two sides who are still in with a shout for direct promotion, but Los Pepineros are the only ones who hold their fate firmly in their own hands. A point against Elche at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque will catapult them into the Primera Division. Eibar, meanwhile, need to beat Real Oviedo at Ipurua and hope that Leganes suffer defeat, given that Los Armeros’ superior head-to-head goal difference would see them prevail in the event that the teams are tied on points.

Whatever happens, Leganes, Eibar and Espanyol are assured a playoff place, with the other two teams who would make up the final bracket yet to be determined. There are three candidates for the two remaining places: Real Oviedo, Real Racing Club and Real Sporting. The team from Gijon need a win in Elda, thereby forcing Racing and Real Oviedo to take three points at Ipurua and in Vila-Real respectively. If there is a tie on points, Sporting have the advantage on head-to-head goal difference over Los Ovetenses, but would lose out to Racing. Meanwhile, if Oviedo and Racing both draw, the tiebreaker would turn to overall goal difference, which favours the Asturians.

At the bottom end of the table, the arithmetic is somewhat simpler. CD Mirandes can clinch their own survival provided they avoid defeat at Anduva against Amorebieta, for whom only three points on the road can bring salvation.
