Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla FC, the four LaLiga Santander representatives in the UEFA Champions League 2017/18, were in the draw for the Group stages at UEFA headquarters in Nyon Switzerland on Thursday.

Real Madrid, champions of the last two editions of the tournament, were drawn in Group H with Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, England’s Tottenham Hotspur and APOEL FC of Cyprus.

FC Barcelona are in Group D with Italy’s Juventus, Greece’s Olympiacos FC and Sporting Clube de Portugal. Ernesto Valverde, who has already coached in the Champions League with Athletic Club, returns three years later tasked with winning a sixth title for the Catalans.

Atletico Madrid face English champions Chelsea FC, Italy’s AS Roma and debutants Qarabag FK of Azerbaijan in Group C. Having been runners up in 2013/14 and 2015/16, Diego Simeone’s men will look to go one step further this season.

After qualifying through the playoff during the week, Sevilla FC enter Group E with Russia’s Spartak Moskva, England’s Liverpool FC and NK Maribor of Slovenia. With Eduardo Berizzo at the helm, and an impressive run of recent successes in the UEFA Europa League, the Andalusians will be looking to replicate that form in the Champions League.
