La Romareda will be the first venue where R. Zaragoza and Girona FC face off as they aim to achieve their dreams of playing in the Liga BBVA next season. Over the course of the season, the Aragonese die managed to beat their rivals 2-1 in the first game, and the sides drew 1-1 on matchday 38. Sixth and third placed respectively, the sides will face one another in this game where according to the key men, the teams’ mind-sets will play a key role.
Team News
For this game, Ranko Popović, manager of the Aragonese side, has José Manuel Fernández back in the side after he served his ban, as well as Javier Álamo and Vullnet Xhevat Basha, who have overcome their injury niggles. Pablo Alcolea is also in the squad to replace Yassine Bounou 'Bono', who is with the Moroccan national team and the forwards Borja Bastón and Jaime Romero are still unavailable.
The Girona manager, Pablo Machín, has travelled with his 22 available players, only leaving behind the injured players David García, Gerard Bordas and Jonás Ramalho. The defenders Ricardo Álvarez 'Richy' and Carles Mas return to action after serving bans.
Thoughs from the dugout
The Zaragoza manager believes that “at this stage of the season, mind-set is more important than fitness”, that is why he is calling upon the fans. He sees his opponents as the “most consistent opponent of the season” and he has “a lot of respect for them”. Popović just wants to “play football and give everything”.
Enthusiastic, Pablo Machín knows that they cannot “throw away a year’s good work”. He feels lucky to have this “second opportunity” and wants “to take advantage of it”. The manager trusts in his side: “We will be motivated and we will not be intimidated but will just really go for it with the atmosphere of football you breathe in there”.
