LaLiga took centre stage at the inaugural edition of the Facebook Football Awards in Spain. The top performing players in the league were on hand to pick up their accolades, as voted for by Marca readers.
In total, 1.2 million votes came in from 191 countries, with particularly high participation levels coming from the other side of the Atlantic, which evidences LaLiga's massive impact on the American market.
This was a point taken up by the LaLiga president, Javier Tebas, when referring to the league's status and the growth it has enjoyed in recent times. Speaking at the awards ceremony, which took place at Facebook's headquarters in Madrid, Tebas declared that "we've got the best league in the world, there's no doubt about it. Any other country would want to have our league, that's why there are followers watching our matches right around the world and at all times of the day."
The Facebook Football Awards included nine categories and both Liga BBVA players and coaches were well represented at the event. We take a look back at the winners.
