The Caribbean is the birthplace of the world renowned music genres Reggae and Soca and its people can boast to be some of if not the most rhythmic individuals on Earth. If the region had a parallel football universe, it would be the Spanish La Liga. The 'sun-kissed' region may not have players turning out for La Liga teams but the fan following and influence on the football psyche is undeniable.

As far back as the footballing roots of the region can be traced, the names Real Madrid and Barcelona are synonymous with greatness. There is probably no other place on Earth where so many aspiring players are nicknamed Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane, Messi, Xavi etc, which is testament to the iconic stature of the stars of the league. In fact the following of La Liga in the Caribbean rose to meteoric proportion from the 90s into the 2000s when the aforementioned names among others gallantly competed for the league's two biggest clubs; Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Closer to home, our CONCACAF powerhouses Mexico and recently Costa Rica have left their imprints for us to observe. Not so long ago the sure footed and ageless Mexican Rafael Marquez was a permanent fixture for the Catalans winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. At present Costa Rica's Keylor Navas stands at times impassable in Los Blancos' goal giving credence to the talent from our confederation.

We believe that the deployment of their players at such a high level has contributed significantly to the quality of their football and explains why they are dominant in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying and CONCACAF tournaments. No doubt football federations and associations across the region would want to follow their Central American adversaries if they are to truly match them.

The easy access to matches on the Caribbean's first 24/7 sports channel SportsMax has increased the regional interest in the league. Weekly TV sets are glued to the exploits of the deadly trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar for Barcelona, the expensive line up of Real Madrid’s 'Galacticos' marshalled by Cristiano Ronaldo and even the tough tackling play of their city rivals Atletico Madrid. It is the Caribbean's dream that one day we will have our own stars adding their intrinsic beat to La Liga's rhythm.
