Real Madrid have home advantage for the deciding game of their semi-final against English side Manchester City, after battling out a 0-0 draw at the Etihad stadium on Tuesday.
It was a tight first half with few chances for either side, though Real Madrid started the brighter. The biggest news with the starting lineup was Lucas Vazquez’s inclusion in place of Cristiano Ronaldo, who didn’t even make the bench, and the youngster was a lively presence with Gareth Bale up front. Manchester City ralled midway through the half but suffered the loss of David Silva to injury just before halftime.
Madrid started the second half with a change in their ranks as well, Jese coming on the replace Karim Benzema. Sergio Ramos had clearest chance to that point to break the deadlock soon after the restart, when he rose unmarked at a corner, but his firm header was straight into the arms of Joe Hart.
Bale started to make his presence felt but it was Jese who came closest next as he looped a header onto the crossbar. Soon after it was Casemiro, who angled a header goalwards at a corner where it was blocked on the line by Hart’s outstretched leg. City's England International keeper was having a great game, and then saved point-blank from Pepe at another corner and it was the hosts who were hanging for the final whistle at the end. The return leg is at that Bernabeu on Wednesday May 4.
