The link between The Americas and LaLiga has always been very close. Many of LaLiga's footballing legends have come from the other side of the pond: Diego Armando Maradona from Argentina, Ronaldo Nazario from Brazil, Ivan Zamorano from Chile and Colombia's Carlos Valderrama.
The Americas continue to produce a steady stream of talented, world-class footballers many of whom play in the Liga BBVA. Those players based in Spain have scored 94 goals so far spread across 10 countries: Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela and Costa Rica.
Brazil, the top scorers
Brazil is the country that leads the way. Nine Brazilians have found the back of the net in the Liga BBVA this season, sharing out 31 goals between them. Neymar, Charles, Deyverson, Léo Baptistão, Marcelo, Petros, Jonathas, Willian José, and Danilo da Silva.
Uruguay and Argentina are right behind Brazil with 15 goals apiece. FC Barcelona's Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are the headline acts with 18 between them. Paraguay is in fourth place with ten goals, courtesy of the likes of Hernan Perez, Antonio Sanabria and Antolin Alcaraz. There are two countries with seven goals apiece: Colombia and Chile, who have James Rodriguez and Fabian Orellana as their respective leading scorers.
Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela and Costa Rica have also left their mark. Felipe Caicedo, Carlos Vela, Adalberto Peñaranda and Celso Borges, respectively, have scored in the 2015/16 Liga BBVA.
