Ten things you may not know about Malaga's Juanpi

The Venezuelan striker is playing a pivotal role in the Andalusian side's excellent current run of form.

  • He took his first steps in the game playing for his school, Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola, which he left to join Caracas FC in 2008.

  • He came through the ranks at Atletico Malagueno, having moved there from Venezuelan side Caracas FC in the 2009/10 season.

  • He had his first contact with the Malaga first-team squad when he was called up to pre-season training in 2013. He was again called up for pre-season in 2014. 

  • Coach Javi Gracia handed him his top-flight first-team debut in August 2014 against Valencia at Mestalla.

  • He is one of four Venezuelan players in the Liga BBVA, along with Miku Fedor (Rayo Vallecano), Adalberto Penaranda (Granada CF) and his teammate Roberto Rosales.

  • His brother, Bernardo Anor, also plays football and plies his trade with Sporting Kansas City in the United States.

  • He played for his country at the 2011 South American Under-17 Championship and was then called up for the South American Under-20 Championship, where he scored one goal.

  • Having earned his spurs in Venezuela's youth set-up, Juanpi made his senior debut in a friendly against Chile on 14 November 2014. 

  • He finished high school and in the future would like to study a university degree, although for now he is focused on his football.

  • His club roommate is Brazilian striker Charles.
